Tonight’s game, providing it goes ahead, should be one to catch the eye. As the staff at the stadium unite to ensure this fixture goes ahead, the ongoing snow means that the battle should provide some picturesque scenes even if the football isn’t at the highest standard!
Despite this, it won’t be the first time that a match at the Emirates will have taken place in the snow. There were two instances in 2010 where the stadium turned white. Back in January 2010, it took an injury time equaliser from club legend Tomas Rosicky to rescue a point for the hosts. The other time Arsenal played in the snow at the Emirates was also in 2010, this time in December where Arsenal comfortably beat Wigan Athletic 2-0. An own goal from Antolin Alcaraz and a goal by the ‘Lord’ Nicklas Bendtner provided Arsenal with the League Cup win that day.
Some will hope that the game is postponed, not just for travel issues but also because the Gunners have to face Manchester City only four days after their 3-0 thumping! The match will likely go on though, so Arsenal will have to face their fears and try to make the Emirates a happy place, even if the attendance will be lower than usual. Blue lines will mean that there is more clarity along the pitch, hopefully the result doesn’t end up being blue too!
