Arsenal VS Manchester United: Match Review

The Gooners were looking to continue their amazing form at the Emirates and Manchester United were trying to keep themselves in the title race and keep pressure on their neighbours, Manchester City.

The game started off extremely poorly for Arsenal and they conceded within the first 4 minutes. Mustafi and Koscielney, who have been in great form recently, were both at fault for the first goal. I also think that Cech could have done better as Valencia was able to put the ball straight through his legs to make it 1-0. It only took United 7 minutes to score their second goal after another defensive mistake and some nice play from Martial who back heeled the ball to Lingard and he finished it well.

The start to this game gave me awful flashbacks of the 8-2 thrashing that United gave us 6 years ago, but something was different today.  Mustafi was injured during the second goal which meant that we had to switch to 4 at the back and Iwobi came on. The change in formation seemed to work well as we started to pile the pressure onto United. We continued to attack them throughout the whole of the first half and they were hardly able to leave their box. We went into the break 2 goals down but if it wasn’t for David De Gea we would 100% have been back in this game before half time.

We came out after half time with the same level of intensity that we finished the first half. The continuous pressure paid off when Ramsey manage to go in on goal and passed the ball back to Lacazette who smashed the ball past the seemingly unstoppable De Gea. The hopes of a legendary comeback were quashed when United counter attacked and Lingard managed to get on the end of a Paul Pogba pass to make it 3-1. 11 minutes after getting his assist Paul Pogba was sent off for stamping on the back of Bellerin’s knee. Although i don’t think it was intentional, it was a red card without a doubt.

red card

I was extremely impressed by arsenal today, despite the scoreline. We played with fight and passion and had there been any goalkeeper in the world other than De Gea,i believe that we would have won the game and i am proud with how hard everyone worked. If we play like we did today for the rest of the season, we will be up there in may.
