PREMIER LEAGUE: Everton vs Arsenal – Review & Ratings

This weekend’s game saw us go to Merseyside to face Everton. After a bad performance at Watford, we were under a lot of pressure to perform & we duly did.

It was Wenger’s Birthday & on his birthday he finally named the team which everyone was waiting for since the start of the season, as he started the most dynamic front three of our squad i.e Özil , Lacazette and Sanchez. Rest of the lineup automatically picked itself as Ramsey was back in the eleven after last week & Mertesacker deputised for injured Mustafi in the centre of the defence.

We started the game very sharply & created many chances after some beautiful interplay by the team. But being Typically Arsenal, we conceded the goal when we were on top after some familiar sloppy play by Xhaka who lost the ball & then Everton scored through Rooney. After that we kept pressuring Everton but we had to wait till the 40th minute for the equaliser which was expertly finshed by Monreal and was well deserved. We had been very good in the first half except for that mistake which cost us the goal. Then we came full throttle in the second half & scored in the first 8 minutes after some beautiful bit of play by the team, specially by Sanchez and Özil who scored to give us the lead. Then Gueye was sent off deservedly in the 68th minute for his persistent fouling which saw him take the second yellow, it also helped us to become more dominant in the game. We then scored the third through Lacazette, where our Trio of stars Sanchez,Özil & Lacazette showed us what they can do together. Özil was sensational in the game as he glided on the field & pull the strings from everywhere. He was literally unplayable at times when he combined with the likes of Ramsey,Sanchez & Lacazette. Xhaka was unlucky at times when he saw some of his brilliant long range efforts not go in. Then later on we totally overpowered Everton after Wilshere came on as we added two more goals in the dying minutes courtesy of some very good play by Wilshere, Ramsey and Sanchez where the latter two scored. It was a very confident performance by the team which was long overdue. WengerBall was back & we bounced back in style. I hope we continue to perform at similar level in upcoming games.

Ratings :

FIRST TEAM :

Cech – 6

Wasn’t really troubled much but he & monreal costed us the second goal as i think he tried to be too smart there.

Koscielny – 7

He was solid & was dominant in the air. Passing was good and always looked assured.

Mertesacker – 7

He was also good today, as he kept it simple & did his job with ease. But I feel he could have closed rooney down a little quicker for the opener. Largely a good performance.

Monreal – 7.5

Scored to bring us back level with a very good finish and looked very good defensively as nothing really troubled him. He was at fault for the second goal as he put Cech under pressure with an unnecessary back pass.

Bellerin – 7

Was a good outlet on the right hand side and some of his crosses looked dangerous. Defensively also he looked assured and convincing. Good game for him.

Ramsey- 8

He looked excellent with his brilliant passing and linkup play. Scored a good goal later. Was always available in attacking areas and troubled everton with his late runs. We certainly miss that spark in midfield when he is not playing.

Xhaka – 6.5

He was good with his passing but certainly we can’t afford to concede any more goals from his individual errors like today. One could say it was a foul or a bad pass by mert but he has to be more urgent there to keep his team safe. He was unlucky with some of his long range efforts. Needs to improve the defensive side of his game or Wilshere is knocking on the door.

Kolasinac – 6.5

Looked very good going forward but he has to improve his defensive positioning as he sometimes exposes monreal too much. He is a very good outlet at left but can improve defensively.

Özil – 9.5 (MOTM)

Ran the game & looked absolutely sublime as he glided on the field, My Man of the Match. Scored our second with a great header after some brilliant play. Assisted Lacazette for another & linked up so well with everyone. Shut his haters & delivered a masterclass. Was simply unplayable at times.

Lacazette – 7.5

Scored a good goal but could have had at least two more. Linked up well & took some good positions. Another quality performance by our number 9.

Sanchez – 8.5

He was also sensational on the day where Everton couldn’t deal with him. Assisted Özil with a brilliant chip & scored a good individual goal later on. He looked sharp, committed & back to his best.

SUBSTITUTES:

Wilshere – 7

Coquelin – 6

Substitutes didn’t really had much to but Wilshere looked very good as he assisted our fourth goal & linked well with others. Waiting for him to get a runout in premier league.

Thats all from my review & ratings. Thank you for reading & feel free to interact with us at Arsenal-ClockEndTalk on Facebook & Twitter. All the comments are welcome.

  1. Finally the real Arsenal has emerged from the shadows . That performance typifies the style of football Arsenal has been built upon by Wenger . We need to play like this for the remainder of the season . If we can resolve the mistakes in midfield that exposes our team then we will get our season going finally. Van Diyk and a tough tackling central midfielder with good feet to pass out from the back is what’s needed in January to strengthen this team
