September Review

As we enter another international break this week, I think back to the last international break when we had just lost to a humiliating defeat to Liverpool by 4-0. There was transfer speculation everywhere; was Sanchez going to leave or was he going to go to City, PSG or Munich. Mustafi was being linked to Inter Milan and OX was being linked with every club going. At the end of that week we were 16th with just 3 points on the board.

The transfer window came and went and to everyones delight Sanchez wasn’t sold or wasn’t part of any swap deal, Mustafi stayed and Ox was sold to Liverpool for £40 million. Personally I think we got a great result there because he’s not worth that amount, more like £10-15 million.

So finally we had some good news and maybe if we all pull together we could turn this around and start to climb the table. With the England games done and the players back we finally look to the weekend game against Bournemouth. It could have been a banana skin for us as confidence was low but we won 3-0. Then the following week a tough game away to Chelsea which I wasn’t looking forward to being after our humiliation against Liverpool?

But I couldn’t have been more wrong when we put in a fantastic performance and ground out a 0-0 draw. This sent confidence wave through the team and the fans. Then always a tricky tie against WBA which we won 2-0 but could have been different if the penalty had been given against Mustafi. A good solid performance against Brighton yesterday which leaves us 5th, tied with Chelsea on points and only 3 goals behind them on goal difference.

I feel that we are more of a team now. We are playing together better and the difference is that Wenger has made some important decisions. Like not starting Ozil when he came back from injury straight away if the team is playing well. Without these players like Sanchez and Ozil he hasn’t been afraid to start them on the bench and leave players that are playing well in the starting line up.

Arsenal since losing to Liverpool:

6 – wins
1 – draw
0 – defeats
15 – goals for
3 – goals against

Just looking at these stats, we are finally scoring more goals and conceding less. This has been a fantastic month for us and I hope that when we play Watford on the 14th October that we will be celebrating another 3 points with no new injuries and finally welcoming some players back from injury.
