Europa League – Arsenal vs FC Köln

Well here we are uncharted waters for an Arsenal fan, Europa league is a league Arsenal have never been before. All I can suggest is embrace it, let’s get behind our team.

The number question alot of us wonder. Is Arsene Wenger taking it seriously ?

Personally I think he will, Wenger has the chance to put his name on some silverware in his first attempt.

Now looking at the upcoming game against Fc Koln.

Head to Head

We have played Fc Koln twice in club friendly in 2011 we beat them 2-1. We all remember the Carl Jenkinson own goal. What a screamer !!!

and again in 2012, where we had a solid win 4-0

Fc Koln

It’s been a dreadful start to the new campaign for the Billy goats though as they’ve gone down in three defeats in their first three games. Peter Stöger’s men have lost to Borussia Monchengladbach, Hamburg and Augsburg so far, seeing them 18th on the Bundesliga ladder.

Fc Koln have played two formations in three games, round one they played a  4-4-1-1 formation against Borussia Mönchengladbach where they lost 1-0. last week they played 4-4-2 against FC Augsburg they lost 3-0.

Fc Koln will player the strongest team possiable. In a group they feel that they can proceed to the next stage.

Key Man

27 year old left back Jonas Hector is the most well-known player in the Koln squad, and the German can play a big role in this match for his team in both defending and attacking situations.  He’s quality on the ball with passing and crossing, but he is just as important and good when defending.

FC Koln likely XI

Horn, Klunter, Sorensen, Heintz, Hector, Hoger, Lehmann, Zoller, Bittencourt, Osako, Cordoba

Arsenal have lost two and won two in the Premier League. However this will be a completely different team . It’s really hard to predict what Arsene Wenger, Arsenal team will look like in the group stages.

Arsene Wenger has heaped praise on Reiss Nelson in the preseason giving fans an indication, he may get on the bench. I would like to see Wishere make the starting line up but i see him only making the bench.

Key Man

After sitting out a good chunk of the match against Bournemouth, Alexis Sanchez will be itching to get a chance to play.  It might not be in his idealistic setting, but he will nonetheless go out and try to show why he is still a player of the utmost quality.

Arsenal likely XI

Ospina, Mertesacker, Holding, Kolasinac, Debuchy, Coquelin, Elneny, Iwobi, Alexis, Walcott, Giroud

Prediction – Fc Koln are no push overs however the Gunners at home should be to strong 2-0 Arsenal.
